external hard drive works with xp but can't with 98se

I set up an external USB Hard Drive to use with my XP
computer for backing up data. That seems to be working
OK. I attempted to backup my computer running 98se on that
same external usb hard drive. On the 98se it shows the
hard drive with zero available space even though there is
(on the xp computer) 75GB of available space. What am I
not aware of that must be done ?

Windows 98 cannot read or write to NTFS Formatted Drives natively. If
the external drive is formatted as NTFS, try using this program:

I am going to assume the USB drivers are working properly if you can see
that the drive is even connected to the computer in Windows 98, so this
is the only thing I can think of that would do this.
