External Hard Drive not recognized

Although my windows 2000 OS recognizes my external hard
drive, windows xp will not. What's the deal? The
computer running on XP Home Edition works fine. The
device manager even shows under the Disk Drives FOlder
that a USB Hard Disk is attached. However, the My
Computer folder does not reveal the drive neither does
the disk management utility. How do I resolve this
issue?

Hi,
Know this isn't much help but I have basically the same
problem with Win XP Pro and Syquest/Iomega 105 mb external
parallel port drive. I have the proper driver but XP
simply "hangs" when all is connected and I boot up. It
NEVER boots into XP, just hangs. Can anyone help? Please
foward ideas to (e-mail address removed)
