I backed up "C" to "K"--external hard disk with Ghost. Then I defragmented
the drive "K" and shut down. Next morning I cannot access drive "K" due to
I/O errors. Also get message "cannot read boot sector." Can anyone help me
with this? Thanks, Jessie.

Don't defrag external drives with back up images on them. It has
something to do with the way that files are compressed and decompressed
while defragmenting a drive. This will not happen if you choose no
compression
for your backup.

THANK YOU, FRANK!! I guess I was the one that messed up my external drive. I have now formatted it, but lost the one file I needed. This was a good lesson for me for the future. Thank you for posting your reply. We can always learn from our mistakes!

I was lucky because I had a backup on another drive.
I also downloaded a utility from Western Digital called
WD FAT32 formatter. I have nothing concrete to say
FAT32 is better, it just makes me feel better and the
drive can be read on any other box. Mac, Linux, whatever.
