external DNS

I am looking to setup External DNS servers "pri" "sec" with my hosting ISP dns server as a additional "sec". I will use a FQDN registered, but this namespace is different from my internal namespace. Can I just place these servers in workgroups with external IPs or do I put up a DC with the registered FQDN then add the servers as member servers to this domain

Strong recommendation: Leave your external servers at your REGISTRAR
(or move them to a good registrar like Register.com)

You will be happier in the long run.
