Extension help

How would one go about changing a file extension from .htm into .html using
frontpage 2002?

I've looked through the help area and it suggested a rename of file.htm into
file.html
After doing this, my extension became file.html.htm.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

FYI: The only page that would need to have a .html extensions, would be your home page.

Thank you Wes and Thomas,

I've tried the folder rename and it still added the .htm at the end.

As far as the index only needing the .html, this would normally be true;
but, the web host I use only allows the .html extensions and is not
compatible with .htm.

But thank you for the information.

You're renaming the page within FP right?

I may be wrong, but ...

Also, Wes and Thomas are much more knowledgeable than I.

However, I have been able to name all of my files with .html extensions and
FP accepts them and publishes them O.K.
The only files that I noticed FP insisting on naming as .htm are top.htm,
bottom.htm and left.htm in the _borders directory, when using shared
borders. I stopped using shared borders and even this problem went away. I
now have a file named top.html which I use as a frameset. In any case these
files are not needed on your remote website.

All that you have to do is note in which directories FP names files as .htm,
go to that directory or directories in Windows Explorer and rename them. (I
think this means one by one unfortunately.) Then when you re-enter FP
everything works fine. You will of course have to alter all references to
*.htm to refer to *.html in the code - again individually, I think.

This could be tedious, but since I started using html extensions I have had
no problems.

If you had renamed the pages within FP all the links would have been recalculated automatically by FP.

I need to rename the files as I am using sitesell.com as my webhosting
service. They are only compatible with .html file extensions and not the
frontpage .htm ones.

Hi,
CLAN_DRAGON

Did you read the reply I posted to the newsgroup
Subject: Re: Extension help
From: "Trevor L." <[email protected]> Sent: 1/21/2005 9:01:56 PM

I know I am very new to this, and the other replies you have had have been
from much more knowledgeable persons than I, but I think it is possible to
rename your files as .html extensions. I did it myself, but because I am
just starting, there weren't all that many to do. Some replies have said
that FP will look after the links inside files, so that may reduce the
workload quite a bit.

Anyway, good luck.
