"Extensible Authentication Protocol" service gives "The system cannot find the file specified" error

My Vista Business SP1 laptop wireless networking stopped working on my
Lenovo ThinkPad T400. The problem boils down to an

error starting the "Extensible Authentication Protocol" service. When
I try to start the service, I get a generic error:

Services

Windows could not start the Extensible Authentication Protocol service
on Local Computer.

Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

I tried the two solutions I found on the net but neither resolved the
problem (wireless doesn't work, EAP service won't

start).

Start Service Wired AutoConfig Properties

Start hidden service ndisuio

According to the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EapHost the dll
for this service is

"C:\Windows\System32\eapsvc.dll". The file exists. When I open it in
Dependency Walker it shows a warning for two files:

Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing
export function in a delay-load dependent module.

Specifically:

c:\windows\system32\IEFRAME.DLL (7.00.6000.16386)

Has errors--functions labeled #160, #159, and #141, #165, #167, and
#142 show up as "Not Bound".

Additionally:

c:\windows\system32\SHLWAPI.DLL (6.0.6001.1800)

Has one error, function #467 shows up as "Not Bound".

Are there newer versions of these files? What updates do I need to
install to get them? I have no idea why this service

suddently stopped working--no updates that I recall and no software
installations.

Any other suggestions as to what is wrong or what I should look into?

Thanks,

Sam
