exporting excel charts as eps files

S

shelley

I am wanting to know whether it is possible to export (or
save) a microsoft excel chart or graph as a vector file
(e.g. eps or emf file).

Basically i am wanting to export an excel chart or graph
as a vector-based file so that i can input it into a
desktop publishing programme like Adobe Indesign. Simply
doing a copy and paste from excel to InDesign only copies
a screen-resolution image, which is, of course, useless.
Most other graphing programmes have the option of
exporting graphs as vector files, so i am hoping that
excel is the same.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Shelley

Hi Shelley -

It is possible to export a chart, but the only filters that work on my
set up are various bitmap filters (gif, jpg, png, tif). Screen shots only.

When you copy a chart in Excel, you can copy as a picture. Hold Shift
while selecting the Edit menu, and the Copy command becomes Copy
Picture. You need to select the On Screen appearance option; size is up
to you, but I prefer the On Screen option; and pick the Picture format
option.

I don't know how this will work with Adobe, but if I paste this copied
picture into PowerPoint, it is treated as a group of vector objects, or
more precisely, a group of Office drawing shapes. If Adobe treats it the
same way, you should be good to go.
