I've decided to use Outlook instead of what I have been using for a couple
of weeks, Windows Live Mail. (I'm in Vista.)

I want to transfer all my emails received during the Windows Live Mail
period to my Outlook account.

I've exported them from Windows Live Mail.

The question is, where did I export them to? At the conclusion of the
export, all I got was a message saying I'd successfully exported them. It
didn't say where they were, now that I was ready to import them into
Outlook.

I can't figure where I'm supposed to import them into Outlook from.

If Outlook is installed, you data was exported to Outlook.

I want to transfer all my messages in Windows Mail on my PC to Outlook on my
laptop. Any ideas how to do that?

Install Outlook on your PC.
Transfer your messages into Outlook.
Close Outlook and make a copy of the Personal Folders (.PST) file.
Transfer this file to a folder on your laptop where it NOT OVERWRITE any
existing .PST files.
Open Outlook on your laptop, then open the transferred .PST file using
'File|Open|Outlook Data File'.
Drag and drop messages from the transfer file to your main .PST file.

I have a different kind of problem. I'm also trying to move from WLM
to Outlook. Problem is, I get a

"
Windows Live Mail was unable to export all of your messages.

Your disk may not have enough space for all the exported messages, or
some of the messages you're exporting may be corrupted. Run Disk
Cleanup or delete some files, then try to export your messages again.
"

I've made sure that the amount of free space is larger than all the
WLM files put together. I've tried exporting an empty folder just to
see if the message is actually being triggered by corrupted data
(apparently not).

So does anyone have any idea what's going on?

Help...

What version of Outlook are you using? How large is your .PST file?

It's Outlook 2000 and the .pst file is about 1.5GB which, is funny
because there's almost no information in there...only a few hundred
contacts. No messages or anything...contacts don't take up that much
space do they?

Anyway, I don't know how big it should be because I haven't managed to
export my WLM messages to my Outlook yet.

I doubt if version 2000 of Outlook runs well under Vista. Even
version 2002 has some problems under Vista. Versions 2003 and
more recent run well, though.

All versions of Outlook prior to 2003 used ANSI format .PST (Personal
Folders) files which have a size limit on the order of 1.6 GB. You are VERY
close to that limit. If you use the Journal, delete any unneeded files,
make sure you've emptied Deleted Items, and try compacting the folder. If
that doesn't work, create a new .PST file and use copy and paste to move
data from the old file to the new one. Note that Outlook 2000 has
compatibility issues under Vista.

I can't reproduce this issue, I can successfully export both Inbox and Sent
Items from WLM to Outlook 2007. Outlook 2003 and 2007 use Unicode format
..PST files and have a size limit on the order of 20 GB. There is no
convenient way to convert an old (ANSI) format .PST file into a Unicode
..PST; the simplest way to do this is to drag everything out of an old file
and drop it into a new format file. It doesn't matter if Outlook is open or
closed, the transfer process will start up whatever Outlook modules are
needed.
