Hi,

I have a backup of a large .pst file from an old computer which ran
Office 2003. I am looking for a way to export the contents of this
file to something readable - plain text, or something similar.

I no longer have the original computer and my current computer does
not have Office or Outlook installed on it. So far everything I've
found that tries to solve this problem assumes that you have a working
Outlook installation, and not just a file.

What can I do?

Thanks,
Frank

Find someone with Outlook 2003 or 2007 who can import msgs to eg Outlook
Express or Windows Mail, and export the Contacts to a csv file

I installed the Office 2007 Demo, opened my pst file in Outlook, moved
the messages to the main profile's inbox. Then I opened Windows Mail
and imported the messages, and from there I was able to output them to
a bunch of text files ending in .eml.

Unfortunately, the text files all have cryptic names which isn't very
helpful when trying to find something (there are about 8700 of them)
but better than having a giant unreadable pst file.

Thanks for the help!

you'll need to export it from a computer that is running outlook. if the
pst was created new in outlook 2003, you'll need to use outlook 2003 or 2007
to export.
