Export from Access qry to Excel no longer working

I have an app that allows users to run a qry, then they can use icon for
evaluating with Excel to export into excel. This has been working up until
recently - and only under certain circumstances:
1. Works OK under windows 2000 (using Access 2000 currently)
2. Under windows xp - will not work for certain queries (seems to be having
pblm when trying to get data out of a specific table) - HOWEVER, will run in
design mode perfectly, but not in regular mode
3. I have tried re-compiling the mde app under windows xp - that did not
help. I tried deleting certain amt of data from suspected table - did not
help (but why would it work in design mode?); I tested wether I could import
data from table to another DB - looking for corrupted data - was able to do -
so data doesn't seem to be corrupted.

Would appreciate some help on this. I am suspecting cause is related to
some MS updates/security patches for windows? (since it had been working & I
made no changes and data does not seem to be corrupted)

addendum: also, this query is not running off of attached Excel files - they
are running off of data retrieved from linked Access tables. The problem
seems to be related to only certain tables - and only under windows xp, as
described originally.

While this info. is definitely useful to know about and I appreciate your
response, it does not apply to my situation: I am using Access 2000 on both
windows 2000 and windows xp. I do not have office 2003 installed on my
machine. Any other ideas? I have run across others having the same problem,
but haven't seen any answers to that are working. Thanks for your response.

I misread your original post. You didn't specify that you were using
Access 2000 with Windows XP, and I wrongly assumed that you had Windows
2000 and Office 2000, and Windows XP and Office XP.

Anyway, I haven't seen or heard of the problem you describe. Can we try
to pin it down a bit more closely?

You say:
app that allows users to run a qry, then they can use icon for
evaluating with Excel to export into excel

1) Am I right in assuming that "run a qry" means "open a select query in
datasheet view"? If not, what?

2) Does "icon for evaluating with Excel" refer to the OfficeLinks button
on a toolbar? If not, what?
will not work for certain queries (seems to be having
pblm when trying to get data out of a specific table) - HOWEVER, will run in
design mode perfectly, but not in regular mode

3) What do you mean by "will not work"? What does happen?

4) I'm not confident that "design mode" and "regular mode" mean the same
things to me they mean to you. Can you explain?

5) "certain queries", "specific table": it sounds as if the problem is
confined to queries based on one particular table, and only some of
those queries. Assuming that's right, what happens if you create a new
query and copy the SQL statement from one of the problematic queries
into it? Does the new query work normally? If so, you probably have
corruption, but in the QueryDefs rather than the data.

6) Does this happen on all Windows XP machines, or do you just have the
one?

7) What happens if you copy the database from the problematic Windows XP
machine to a Windows 2000 one, and vice versa? Does the problem move
with the database or stay with the computer?

8) Do you have the same Office 2000 service packs on all the computers?
Have you installed Windows XP SP2?
