When I turned my computer on, tried to open a folder but it wouldn't
work. When i double clicked on it, explorer.exe just closed and open
again a few seconds later. Even when i try to do it from run,
explorer.exe just terminates. So now i can even open a folder! (none!
nill! zero! nothing!)

I am using Windows XP SP2
I don't know what caused this to happen, but it just happened when i
turned on my computer!

I had a similar experience earlier this week after installing the November
hotfixes, including the new IE7. After the reboot, many many things did not
work - same as you, I got the same brief flicker of the hourglass, a blink,
and then the desired item would close. This affected IE, My Computer, System
Restore (making a restore impossible), and others. Some applications worked
(such as Firefox!!!) but the system-based stuff did not. I made a wild guess
that the culprit was IE7, and so I uninstalled it to roll it back to IE6. Go
to Control Panel/Add Remove Programs, and click the checkbox at the top of
the dialog box to show updates. Scroll down to the IE7 item, click on it, and
then click the Remove button. This will cause the system to uninstall the new
IE7 and put back IE6.

Hope this helps
