Hi!

Some time ago I found a tweak for WinXP to load each explorer-window as an
own instance. This protected the desktop from crashing when the explorer
chrashed (what happens not too seldom IMHO).

I cannot find that tweak anymore. Can anybody tell me how I can make Win XP
load each Explorer as an own instance?

Kind regrads,
Sebastian

It doesn't work anymore (since about IE6 .. i.e. afaik it has never
worked in WinXP). The one to run =desktop= as a separate process still
works .. you can google for it (www.google.com 'Windows XP run explorer
desktop separate process' or something similar.) So you can have two
processes (desktop, and all other windows) but that's your lot.

I think it is dword valuename SeparateProcess with value 1 under registry
key
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanc
ed\".

By the way, if your explorer crashes often, you might have virus or spyware.
Spyware programs attaches new "features" actually to Internet Explorer, but
as normal Explorer uses same code, that affects also to Explorer. I have
seen many reports about crashing IE or Explorer. Some of them have got
spyware, which has got bugs, which has caused the crashing.
