Explorer.exe restarts when accessing printers

DocHol

Have an Athlon machine with Win XP home SP2 that has been working
excellent for me until now.

Windows said there were updates available which I installed (friday
11th of feb.). After this was finished, I began adding the Fax service
via "Add/remove programs", received a fax, and things seemed to work
out just fine. From before, I had an Epson C42plus USB installed.

If I after this try to access the printers & faxes via the control
panel, explorer.exe crashes and restarts. Always with a notification
that either printui.dll or ntshrui.dll has caused the problem. Most
often it crashes before I can see which printers/faxes that are
available. If it doesnt, it crashes at the first attempt to open a
file explorer window.

Here´s what I´ve tried..

1. Uninstalled fax -> No difference.
2. Uninstalled fax + Epson -> No difference.
3. Went back to a system restore point one week earlier, but my
problem is still there.
4. Scanned system for viruses with several different softwares, but
they didnt find anything.
5. Ran Adaware SE, did not find anything of harm.
6. Ran SpyBot, did not find anything of harm.
7. Changed the view of folders in "Folder options" from "webview"
to "classic view". This made a significant change (but I have no
idea why??), explorer.exe can still crash, but not near so often as
before.

My system consists of following components..
Abit KV7
AMD Athlon XP2200+
2x256Mb DDR 400
2x120Gb Seagate SATA HD
1 NEC ND1300A DVD-RW
1 Samsung DVD-ROM
1 Sapphire Atlantis RADEON9600SE
1 "Best data fax modem"

All drivers are up to date.

Any help or clues are highly appreciated !

Regards Doc.
