Hi,
I recenty had a bit of a virus problem, I've managed to at last to get
that all sorted out, bu I'd say 50% of the time when I boot my PC up
explorer.exe doesn't start. If I say "new task" in the windows security
box and start explorer it loads and the system runs normally. But as I
say, only about half of the bootups don't start explorer.
Thanks
Steven

Make sure your computer is really clean of all viruses and malware:

If the computer is truly 100% virus/malware-free, then it is probable
that system files were damaged by the infections. Here are things to
try:

1. System File Checker. Start>Run>sfc /scannow [enter]
Have your XP cd handy.

2. If SFC doesn't help, try a Repair Install:

3. If Repair Install doesn't work, back up your data, format the drive,
clean-install Windows. Install drivers, programs, restore data from
backup. Do not connect to the Internet until at least the SP2 Windows
Firewall is active and an antivirus program installed.

After you do get to log on, disable the active desktop and see if that
makes any difference.
