explorer.exe is ticking along...

G'day all;

Okay, I'm sitting here in FrontPage, when I notice that my normally smoothly
running machine is "jerky". So I pop up the task manager, and notice that
"explorer.exe" is running (not too noteworthy, I had an explorer instance
open--but wasn't "doing anything" in it), and the disk "read" bytes count is
pipping along clocking bytes at the rate of around 60-70KB/sec! Closing it
made zero difference. In fact, closing everything except OE and this note,
made no difference at all.

Can anyone tell me why this might be happening? Or how to figure out who
the active culprit is?

Methinks it has something to do with that long startup I've been
experiencing. I'm still working that one...and thanks to those of you that
have replied...

I can believe it, but I've run all of the usual list of suspects (Ad-Aware,
Spybot S&D, HiJackThis!, EZ A-V), and they say I'm clean.

I'll happily try something else if you think it'll do any good... Cuz I'm
outta ideas...

Quickest check would be to disable the indexing service and see if the behavior changes.

Administrative Tools -> Services -> Indexing Service.

If you search Help & Support for "indexing", you'll find more info.

If you turn off indexing, change your search options accordingly, or you won't find all files.
