Don

Hello all,
I've been cleaning and adjusting my system (XP Pro) and have now
clearly boinked some things. Main problem: in explorer if I select a
"dead" link and attempt to delete it exploerer goes into never never
land. same thing if I right click the item. Second problem also
eealing with explorer: links show up in my Quick Launch toolbar that
DO NOT EXIST in ANY of my %apps%\MS\IEx\QuickLaunch directories! Any
idea where these can come from?

Thanks for any guidance.

Look in ...
%appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Quick Launch

%AllUsersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Get rid of the malware.

UPDATE your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

UPDATE whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.

You might want to start in Safe Mode to run your antivirus and anti-spyware
software.

Running a full system antivirus scan or anti-spyware scan in Safe Mode can
be a good idea. Some viruses and other malware like to conceal themselves
in areas Windows protects while using them. Safe mode will prevent those
applications access and therefore unprotect the viruses or other malware
allowing for easier removal.
