Hello,
when I open a folder with image files in it (jpg's) the windows explorer
crashes. (error code says something about a read or write operation on the
memory that has failed)
when I move the folder, for instance from My documents to the desktop, the
problem is solved for some time.
Problem is that when I try to open a file from the folder in Photoshop or
Dreamweaver, they also crash.

I have the same problem with two different computers.

help would be appriciated very much...

thanx

Have you run a full anti-virus scan with updated definitions?

How many copies / versions of ntdll.dll do you have in your system32
folder?

My viruschecker updates itself every couple of days and it can't find anything.

I've done a search on the ntdll.dll file and there is one version in the
system32 folder and one in the windows\servicepackfiles\i386 folder, that
seems to be right. They are both the same version (5.1.2600.2180)

I had to answer my own question after 3 hours of research.

If you have Photoshop 7.0 on your computer (as I do) here is the
problem.

Photoshop 7 attempts to create thumbnails whenever a folder is viewed in
explorer. To disable this, right-click on any image file in explorer, go
to
Properties, go to the "Photoshop Plugin" tab and uncheck "Generate
thumbnails" (possibly you have to do this for each file type - but not
for
each individual file). Another option is to rename "psicon.dll" and
reboot,
which disables thumbnail generation by Photoshop.

This worked for me hopefully it works for others out there!

FYI: Don't bother with these useless Microsoft support forums there is
never
any answers on them. Just Google your problem and you will find the
answer.

END of extract from Google

Check whether you have all relevant updates for Photoshop 7
