Explorer crashes on Right click on Folder - SOLVED

S

Spoon2001

I had a problem where Windows Explorer would crash whenever I right-clicked
on a Folder icon. It would not crash if I right-clicked on a file.

The problem disappeared when I deleted the following registry key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\PixVueContextMenu

Before deleting this key, I exported the following key to a REG file:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

Under this key, each subkey represents a different context menu handler. I
deleted the subkeys of this key one at a time. After I deleted each key, I
tested by running Explorer again and right-clicking on a Folder icon. It
was only when I deleted the PixVueContextMenu key that the problem
disappeared.

Hope my experience will be useful to somebody.

Thanks for posting. It may not be the same handler causing the problem for
everyone. Pls see::

Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers:

Right-click is extremely slow only when Network is enabled:
