expanding D drive

I've never actually tried to change my partitions before and I'm a bit
confused. I would like to take some of my C: and expand D: However, Vista's
disk management program really limits the shrinking allowed (I believe due to
page files). Even when I defrag C: and get some unallocated space, I can't
expand b/c it's left of my D:. Can I delete D: and expand C: to use all
available space, and then create a new D drive? What exactly is a logical
drive (like my D:)? When I create a new drive it is not labeled as
logical... Thanks!

While, as I stated, I've not used Vista's Disk Management for this purpose
as I use Acronis Disk Director, I would assume you would be able to perform
this function.

The following might with explaining drive types and partitioning:

Note: you will see the term extended partition. Some partitioning software
such as Acronis Disk Director, create the extended partition in the
background and you won't see it in the partition list. Other software shows
it in the partition list. In Acronis, it is created automatically, in
others it may need to be specifically created.
