exiting excel ONLY the workbook will close

Brandon

When I exit excel only the workbook will close and I have to click the 'X' a
second time to exit the application.

and yes, I am using the application close 'X' NOT the workbook close.
I only have this problem on my computer, all of my friends and families
exiting functions properly (if I use the workbook close the workbook will
close, if I use the app close the both workbook and app will close)

anyone know why? I cannot find a setting in the options to configure this.
Is it a slight corruption from install maybe?

it gets rather annoying any idea would be appreciated

ok well whatever it is must be something to do with XP or something corrupt
on install.

I used the same disc to install on my moms laptop as well as uninstalled and
re-installed on my system.

Still the same result...using the app close only closes the workbook and
have to hit the app close a second time to close the app.

any ideas anyone???

Thank You Bob I,

that did the trick. I don't get it though, I looked at my laptop which
closes the app properly and the same option is checked, some how it worked
for my desktop install though to uncheck.

only real difference is that I am running XP ProSP2 and the laptop is running
Vista Home Premium x64SP1.

Hi

I'm having this same problem on my work computer. we're running Excel 2002
on XP and each time I click on the red X to exit from excel completely, it
only closes the workbook. It also happens when I go to File - Exit and also
when I click on the windows logo in the top left and click on close.

I tried unchecking the box for "windows in taskbar" and still it makes no
difference. I also tried holding the shift key in case this might work, but
it doesn't.

Does anyone know if there is anything else I can try? It's a bit annoying
because it only happens on this computer (which I only started using last
week).

Thanks
Nina

I have the same problem but this works to make the red X function properly,
but is there a way to close Excel on one click on the red X like you answered
here AND be able to preview each open Excel workbook on the taskbar?

Setup: Windows 7 Enterprise and Office 2007 Enterprise.

Thanks

If I uncheck the box you suggested that fixes the exiting problem, but
hovering over the taskbar only shows one open item.

If I have the box checked hovering works to view all the open workbooks but
then the exiting issue is back.

Can you suggest something else?

Thanks
