Exernal USB FDD Driver Problem

Hi,
I have a problem with an external Teak USB FDD. When
the drive is plugged into WinXP Pro (Sp1) it detects it
and works fine. The problem comes when i try to "Safely
remove hardware". The System brings up a list of devices
i can stop for removal, when i select the USB FDD and
click STOP the system blue screens and displays..

Please conact your sys admin.

I have called Dell support and they said to install WinXP
Pro SP1a, although this service pack does not allow my
system to boot at all.

Any ideas would be appreciated

well i've had success with just unplugging it w/o telling windows... and
everything was fine... i've done this with printers (hp laserjet 4) usb
devices, and pc cards ... all without problems

other than that i'd say that dell hasnt updated their answer book in a while
