exel spread sheets

i have a spread sheet in my email as a attachment but can't open it as
windows does not know what program created it what do i do?
i'm running windows xp
 
Detach the file to someplace on your hard drive.
In Excel use file open and select the file.
There is a good chance that the file does not have the .xls extension.
When you go to save it. I would add the proper extension.
 
excel is not supplied as part of windows xp, you need to purchase it
separately ..so if you don't have excel then you either need to purchase it,
or if all you need to do is view / print the workbook then you might like to
download the excel viewer from the microsoft site and use that -
