Executable

Have WinXP Home loaded on a Dell 2400 with McAfee Virus protection. While
trying to "clean" out some old executable files (located in my personal
directory, not system files) a file called "snowman.exe" would not delete.
McAfee showed an error that the file could not be deleted. Now, I cannot get
ANY *.exe file to open. When I click on a file with that extenstion, it
opens in Notepad. Have rebooted and now see the files that normally open in
the background with *.exe cannot open. I tried the fix from a 2004 help
entry which provided a zipped "fixit" file with no change. Tried a system
restore and because it opens with a *.exe it will not open. What can I do to
get my machine back in working order? I am able to send this message only
because I used a "workaround" with McAfee to get into the internet. I cannot
receive email, so please post replies here.
