exe files not executing

Did a little too much house cleaning and wiped out some critical files, now
exe files do not execute. Is this an easy fix or do I have to reload from
scratch.

Use the System Restore tool and leave the system alone.
 
Will not let me run restore. I have backed up just about everything critical,
its time for a fresh install it has been a good run about 2.5 years. Before
XP about a year was all I could get before problems forced me to reformat.
This time it was my fault, good lesson.
 
Thanks for the tip. But I decided to backup and reformat a fresh install, its
been about 2.5 years and I guess it was time to start fresh. Lots of hours
ahead. Again thank you.
