Hi

Have a problem which hopefully someone kindly will be able to help
with.

I am running a access database on a windows 2003 sbs server.

I need to make changes to the design of some forms and reports.
What I was able to do was transfer a copy of database to my xp system
and make the changes and then copy the database back to the server.

Now it will not let me on eiter the server or the xp system.

COmes up error message saying Access needs an exclusive lock or it
suggests I implement a source code, now I'm lost!!

I do have a user in the security / worksgroup of the database and
permissons set to the admin user.
I've tried changing them, but it has made no difference.

Any suggestions most welcomed, fell free to email me at
(e-mail address removed)
remove nospam

or post back to this group.

Thanking in advance

Phil

Probably you still have open some instance of Access with that db.
Check which user lock that file.
Do you see file with ldb extension open? If yes that probably mean that
someone still has open that db.

Hi Bill thanks for reply.

Yes I do see the idb extension.

yet database is on tempoary on my XP system and no one else has it
open, Acess just thinks someone does.

I need to reset the users etc, can that be done?

Thanks

Phil

Close all visible instances of Access in all PC's who use db on server
or on your PC. Then when you are sure nobody have open db check for ldb
file. If exist then check on your PC and other with Ctrl+Alt+Del in
Task manager if you have some orphan instance of Access. If you have
kill all that instances. Then delete ldb file. After that open
exclusively db from server. Why you didn't try to open db directly from
the server at the beginning?

What you mean "What I was able to do..."? Did you try already to open
from server at the beginning already?

If that doesn't solve your problem try to shut down server if you can
and check again. Maybe is also corrupted somehow mdw file. Run also
Scandisk on server and your PC.

Hi Billy,
Okay no one has the database open on server or my xp system.
There is no IDB file showing.
I use record lock viewer and it tells me Client one ( which is me) has
it open and no one else.

I now notice I cannot find any MDW file for this databasse.
However I just search my server and found it on the old hd we had in
server.
That should be in same directory the Database, correct?

What I meant by I was able to do.
I had to do a fresh installation of Windows XP pro late last year and
ever since then I cannot save any designs on database.
I suspect problem might be the name I called XP system, it was called
Brunswick, now it is called Client One. My IT guy did this for the
server purposes.
Would this make a difference?

Another question if I may.
When I do try to open a design report for example, MS help recommends
using source safe control using MS Visual safesource Addin for
Microsoft Office Access.
Would this be a option?

Thanks
Phil

Hi Phil!

MDW file can be anywhere on your local PC or on the server. If you find
that on old server then you probably using before. So you have to look
properties on your old PC backup how was set Target property for that
icon when you started app. or how is that set on some other client.
Here you will see if MDW file was used or no. I think it was (but not
necessary) so you will need also username and password. This info can
also be written in that Target line for that icon.
About desing report msg you got you can choose no. Probably you have
have install Safesource program on your PC.
Did you try to get in touch with the author of that application? He has
for sure to know exact working demands for that application.
Regards,
Billy
