Exchange instant messenger & NET passport

S

Skip Shean

My company uses exchange messenger (v.5.0), and it works fine. Per their
network decisions, access to internet instant messaging is disabled from
inside our network on the server side and on the routers. No problem there.
I'm NOT trying to get around that in any way.

However, I am allowed to and would like to use my hotmail address for
internet instant messaging when at home, mostly to get access to remote
assistance, which I've been using since the release of XP to help my family
and friends when they have issues on their pc's.

I'm able to access IM using my hotmail account with Trillian when at home,
but not Windows Messenger.

What's the "right way" to set this up? I can't have the .NET service
checked when at work, so keep that in mind.

Thanks.

Greetings,

I think the easiest solution here would be to just install MSN Messenger 6
(http://messenger.msn.com/Download) and use that client when you're at home. You'll have all
the Windows Messenger functionality (minus Exchange of course), and it will remain separate
from Windows Messenger and how it's setup.
