I recently attempted to install Norton System Works on my Windows 2000
machine. It never installed correctly and ultimately appears to have
corrupted an OS file. System Works gives me an error when it attempts
to uninstall and re-install and the control panel add/remove programs
gives me this message:

An exception occured while trying to run
"C/WINDOWS/system32/shell32.dll, Control_RunDLL
"C:/WINDOWS/system32/appwiz.cpl",add or Remove Programs"

I have used an Avast BART disk to replace the shell32.dll and
appwiz.cpl files but that did not correct the problem.

Is is possible to download and re-install SP2 or is there another
option?

Are you using Windows 2000 or Windows XP? If you are using WIndows
2000, you have posted to the wrong newsgroup.

BTW: Windows 2000 is/was at SP4.

Head over to Symantec's web site and in Support section look at the
steps to remove SystemWork. Also you may have to locate the enhanced
Norton removal application there.
