Hello, my friend's PC running W/XP PRO SP2 ... we go to IE ... Tools ...
Internet Options ... Connection Tab
we get an exception c:\windows\system32\shell32.dll control_run dll
c:\windows\system32\inetcpl.cpl

IE is inoperable, but Firefox works fine. How do we correct this issue?

Hi,

Click start/run, or hit the winkey+r, and type:

control inetcpl.cpl

Does the same thing happen? If so, go to the c:\windows\system32 folder and
delete that control panel applet. Then restart the system, it should be
replaced by another from the system cache.

Rick, after I submitted this post, I tried the exact same thing. The message
no longer comes up, but instead the IE just hangs. The cruel thing about
this situation is that I would LIKE TO reinstall IE. However, without IE in
the first place due to this error, I do not know how to get IE ... is there
an FTP site? Anything to do with internet options is completely out of whack
.... Firefox must not use those parameters.

Could there be some residual keys in the registry that I must delete?

Hi,

IE is easy to reinstall, open Windows Explorer to C:\Windows\Inf, locate the
ie.inf file. Right click it and choose install. If you cannot see the file,
click tools/folder options and on the view tab change the options so that
you can see hidden and operating system files.
