Excell Malfunctioning

I opened an excell worksheet and selected a cell, but was
unable to edit it. Instead, after selecting a cell, when
I would move the mouse it would select the range as I move
it and shows a formula in the formula bar. I got no
response when I would right click and was unable to close
the window or use the taskbars so I hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete to
get out. I opened an empty excell sheet thinking that
maybe it was the sheet I was working with but it happens
in any excell sheet. I scanned my files with Norton Anti
Virus which has Live Update and no viruses were found.
I'm at a loss as what to do other than reinstalling
windows. Please help if you can!!! Thank you! Tricia

Do you see "EXT" or "ADD" down on the status bar?

If so hit F8 key until either/both go away.
