Excell- am stupid and need help figuring out how to write in cell

I need to know how to be able to write in a cell box without having it change
to a formula or some other figure.
 
Exactly what are you doing and exactly what are you getting. Be specific on
both ends. If you enter an equal sign as the first character in a cell,
Excel will take it that you are typing a formula. HTH Otto
 
Try formatting the cell(s) as text before typing in your data. Format/Cells
- select Text.
