excel97 files

To what? All later excel versions can open excel files made in previous
versions,
and with regards as to 97 it is still the same file format that it's being
used

Sorry, I panicked. Some years ago I tried an xls file with
MS Works and had disaster. MS announced that they were no
longer supporting Excel97. At that moment, almost certainly
a coincidence, excel started doing funny things.
I have installed Excel2003, or whatever it is called, and
everything works fine.
