Excel XP is driving me mad!

Help! I use pivot tables a hell of a lot. I've just
switched to Office XP. When I reference to a pivot table
it now pulls in a locked expression (GETPIVOTDATA) rather
than the cell reference. If I copy this formula along it
doesn't update the way Excel 2000 did and it's very
annoying. Short of typing "=D17" to reference the pivot
table does anyone know how to turn this "enhanced"
referencing off?

If you want to turn off the Generate GetPivotData setting, follow these
steps:
1.. Select Customize on the Tools menu.
2.. Click the Toolbars tab, and then select the PivotTable check box. The
PivotTable toolbar is displayed.
3.. Click Close.
4.. On the PivotTable toolbar, click the Toolbar Options arrow (on the
right end of the toolbar).
5.. Click Add or Remove Buttons, click PivotTable, and then select
Generate GetPivotData.
6.. Click in the worksheet.
7.. Click the Generate GetPivotData button that now appears on the
PivotTable toolbar. Clicking this button turns it on or off. If the button
is selected, the GETPIVOTDATA formula will be automatically generated.

Hmmm... My PivotTable toolbar is locked. I can't make any changes to it at all. When I click
Add/Remove buttons on this toolbar, PivotTable is grayed-out. But I CAN drag the GetPivotData
button to another toolbar. Any suggestions? (I've run Detect and Repair).

in the immediate window of the VBE

type or copy
?commandbars("pivottable").protection

if that says 0 it's NOT protected

then typing :
commandbars("pivottable").protection=0

will remove the protection.

see vba help
commandbar object/protection property

Thanks! I had gone to the Object Browser and looked at the properties of the command bar object,
but I missed Protection. It was set to 3. I wonder how it got that way ... no others are
protected.
