Excel XP, I Need Help

I have not used excel before today and i think i've done pretty good s
far, i just can't figure out how to do one thing:

I am using Row 1 as my header line for the various fields and i hav
run into a problem with B1, the field is Smear#/Slides
I want it to appear as :

Smear#/
Slides

I also have 2 other fields that i wish to "split" like that, but
don't know how, can anyone help

gives you a new line within a cell

e.g. Smear#/ [alt]&[enter]

Select B1 and then Format.Cells from menu
Activate Alignment tab and check 'Wrap text'. OK.
Now when the column is too narrow to fit the text in B1, the text is wrapped
to 2 rows. Maybe you have to add a space into heading, to force the break
at proper place.

Another way - into B1 type 'Smear#/' , without leaving the edit mode, press
Alt+Enter, and then continue typing with 'Slides'

Third way - maybe you simply change the orientation for header row to
vertical, or p.e. to 45 degrees - ? You can do this on Alignment tab of
Format Cells window again.
