Excel worksheets open SLOWLY

When opening any Excel 97 worksheets on my local computer
by double clicking on the worksheet icon, it takes almost
two minutes to open the file. If I open Excel first and
then open the worksheet through File, Open, it opens
instantaneously. There are no add-ins in the spreadsheet
and nothing in the XLSTART directory. Any thoughts?
Thanks a million!

How about with excel open and then double clicking in windows explorer?

(Just curious)

Try cleaning up your windows temp folder.

If that didn't help, try renaming all your *.xlb files to *.xlbOLD (with excel
closed).

*.xlb is where excel stores customized toolbars. Sometimes that can slow down
excel when it's opening.

If that works, then delete those *.xlbOLD files and recreate any customizations
to your toolbars.

(At one time, my *.xlb (in xl97) was 450K. I killed it and recreated it. It
was about 12K.)

If none of this helped:

You may want to take a look at these two sites
