Excel workbook and sheet damaged

Dear sir / madam,
I am facing problem with an excel
workbook.Whenever am opening my data workbook am getting
the following error :

This file is not in a recognizable format

# If you the file is from another program which is
incompatible with microsoft excel, click cancelthen openit
in its original application.If you want to open the file
later in microsoft excel, save it in a format that is
compatible , such as text format.
# If you suspect the file is damaged,click help for more
information about solving the problem.
# If you still want to see what text is contained in the
file, click ok THen click finish in the Text Import wizard

There are services/utilities that purport to be able to recover data from
damaged files. I've never used them but here's one fwiw:

http://www.conceptdata.com/excel/

I believe some people have reported being able to open damaged Excel files
in OpenOffice that Excel could not open!

Excel 2002 and 2003 are better at dealing the damaged files than earlier
versions so if you aren't using one of those versions but have access to
them you might try them.

Oh, and if you don't have a backup copy of your workbook it's a good idea to
start _always_ creating one.
