Excel won't remember sort parameters

Hi!
Using Excel 2002 SP3 (from Office XP Developer's Edition).

When I select several rows, do Data->Sort, select "No header
row", select three key columns (all descending), and choose
"OK", it sorts just fine.

The problem is that I have to do ALL of that EVERY time.

In the past, with this same version of Excel, it usually
remembered my sort keys, etc, and I could just Data->Sort
and hit "OK" and it all worked perfectly.

But it occasionally forgets that, and I have no idea how
to make it "remember" it again. There doesn't seem to be
any setting for "be intelligent".

So, HOW can I make it remember my sort keys/etc, just like
it did a few days ago??
And WHY the heck does it (apparently randomly) forget them?

If the data you select the second time is a sub-set of your first sort,
then Excel seems to remember the sort parameters. However, if it is a
new set of data, or if it extends beyond the columns you had selected
earlier, then Excel treats this as a new sort.

Hope this helps.

That's not what I've been seeing. My data is a growing table; growing
by adding new rows to the bottom. Number of columns never changes.

Each and every time, I select (entire rows) from the top of the list
(row 4) to the current bottom of the list. This is exactly what I
have always done for this sorting.

Yet Excel -sometimes- remembers the sort parameters. It might even
remember them for 50-100 sort occurrences in a row (with a growing
number of rows each time).

Then suddenly it will forget the sort parameters!! It -may-, after
a few hundred attempts, start remembering them again. But there
seems to be no rhyme or reason, and no way to FORCE it to remember.

I think it's malicious.

Even if I do the exact same sort TWICE in a row without
changing ANY data ANYWHERE in the worksheet (or even in
the file), it won't remember the sort parameters. Even
the THIRD/FOURTH/etc attempts require re-input of -ALL-
the sort parameters!

And yet I know (from past experience) that Excel -will-
begin to remember sort parameters SOMETIME in the future.
I have NO control over WHEN it will remember, but it will
start to remember, and will continue that for a while
until it "decides" to piss me off AGAIN and forget.

WHY does Excel randomly change its behavior?? Grrrrrr.
