Excel Stops Responding When Printing

I have a user on WinXP with Office 2000 SR-1 (SP3)
printing to an HP LaserJet 5N

When he prints from Excel, the application hangs and he
has to end task. This is when he prints, rather than print
preview which I have noticed as a separate issue

Anyone come across this before?

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Office but no difference.
I also installed SP3 but agin, no difference ...

I've got a user with the same setup having the same
problem. Could be an XP conflict?

Could be ... I've tried all sorts

Uninstalling and re-installing office.
Clearing out all temp files from the PC.
Removing and re-installing the printer ...
_I_ can print of the spreadsheet he is printing ok.

I'm thinking of installing Office XP rather than 2000

Further to this ...

I installed Office XP this morning and tested out the
printing. All good!
