Excel SS will not import

I am using the wizard to import a spreadsheet. I get through the wizard and
then I get an error message that says "An error occurred trying to import
file (name of file). The file was not imported. I cannot figure out why
it's not importing and it doens't provide me with any data. Any help will be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Not much to go on...

Version of Excel? Version of Access? OS?

Have you tried not importing the data, but Linking to it instead?

Have you inspected the Excel file to see if anything pops out?

More info, please!

Sorry. I'm using Office 2003 and OS is XP.

It does Link, but will not import. I even trying naming the range and
trying to import. I've been over and over the spreadsheet and nothing seems
out of the ordinary.

While you are going through the import wizard, click on "Advanced..." and
set all fields to text. If that does not import then post back.

To get the advanced option I changed the ss to csv. When I import now I get
"The search key was not found in any record". I am unfamilar with that
error. I click ok and the it gives me the original error.

Thanks,

I'm not sure why it won't import, and if you are curious, you could try
searching on-line with some of those terms.

If you are more concerned with making it work, how about using the Link?
You said that worked for you, and there could be a significant advantage of
linking over importing ... a link is current, so you don't have a potential
issue of having imported data that is out-of-date.

I am having much the same issue. A nice spreadsheet (exported from Access,
actually) now will not be imported. I am trying to send it to a new table.
The spreadsheet has nothing fancy - not even formulas, just numbers.

The only message I get is "File could not be imported". Both Access and
Excel are 2003. That is 4 years this has been on the market and no one at
microsoft can explain what 'File was not imported' was caused by?

Linking is not an option. This task should be taking only a little bit of
my valuable and scarce time but I will be spending all damn day trying to
work around a stupid problem that should not even exist between these two
programs from the same publisher.

BS.
