Excel recalculation problem

P

pwz

Hello All,

I am experiencing that the cells in one worksheets of my workbook start not
recalculate automatically from some days though the sheet is set to
recalculate auotmatically. I have tried F9 or Shift F9 to force
recalculation but failed too.

I need to pretend to edit the cell one by one, i.e. pressing F2 and enter.
The cells then recalculate. Open and close the workbook also do not help.

My Excel is XP. The workbook contains more than 20 worksheets and its size
is 1.5mb. My pc has 512mb ram.

Is it a Excel bug or insufficient of ram?

Ctrl-Alt-F9 is supposed to do a full recalc. But once you've done it future
changes should ripple through the workbook with a normal calc.

And if Jim's suggestion doesn't work--but I bet it will...

Edit|Replace
=
with
=

And excel will see every formula changed and reevaluate.

And if you group all your sheets, then do the Edit|replace, it'll be easier.

(Don't forget to ungroup them when you're done.)

Sorry I missed out on the beginning of this thread....

I have observed behavior similar to what pwz saw. using Excel XP running on
both Windows 2000 and Windows XP Home Edition. Suddenly, I will notice that
pressing F9 or Shift-F9 has no effect. No recalculations are done --
although the "Calculate" notice in the Status Bar resets. I have to
completely close Excel and then re-open it, then everything's OK (for a
while).

I have noticed this mostly in a shared workbook that resides on a network
server. I doubt pwz's problem is a memory limitation -- the workbook I have
problems with is about 47M.

Dave's suggestion would be fine if I always had the luxury of manual
operation. However, this workbook has a number of macros that extract data
from the database and builds graphs from it, so ReCalc has to work reliably
for me.

I think it's an Excel bug.
