Excel pivot tables and SSAS

i've created a pivot table in excel 2007 that connects to a SSAS cube
(Sql Server 2005) and i can't get any of the dimensions to collapse
(or expand); that is when i add a dimension to a column or row all the
data for that dimension appears and there's no way to collapse it -
the - or + icons don't appear. when i double-click on a dimension, i
get an error that says, 'Cannot show or hide detail for this
selection.'

when i create a pivot table whose datasource is a range of cells in
another worksheet, expanding and collapsing works just fine.

thanks in advance,

arthur

I have the exact same problem: I have migrated my BI solution from one server
to another. When I connect from Excel to the original server, the
expand/collapse functionallities work, when I connect to the new server,
these functionalities seam gone.

Check the Pivot Table options. Under Display tab, make sure "Show
expand/collapse buttons" is checked.
