Excel opens transparent when double-clicking a file

I recently had to reinstall Win2k on my PC. I didn't do a format, just
reinstalled over the old directory. Of course I had to reinstall all app
afterwards. I had some various Office problems and most have been resolved
by removing and reinstalling Office (btw it's XP Pro).

However I still have one weird problem. If I open a file by first starting
Excel and using File | Open all is well but when I open Excel files from
outside Excel, Excel opens and appears to function OK except that I cannot
see any cells, the area where cells would appear is transparent, alllowing
me to see whatever program is 'behind' Excel. This happens if I double-click
a file, use a shortcut or double-click an email attachment. The weird thing
is that I can still get around the worksheet if I use the arrow keys. I can
see the value of cells in the Formula Bar as I move around.

I am stumped

Have you this in Windows Safe Mode? (At boot, press F8 and choose safe
mode.) Also, try Application Safe Mode. (Hold down the Ctrl key while
double-clicking your XLS file.)

Try the above and post the results...

Sounds like good advice but I cna't try it because the problem has
apparently fixed itself. I cannot reproduce the problem at all! I was having
the problem for days but now all is well.

Maybe it's because the Cubs are winning!
