Excel macros

I have created a macro to reformat spreadsheet and stored the created
macro in personal.xls so that i can use it in an spreadsheet. When I
record new macro and choose "store macro in - Personal Macro
Workbook"...i get message displayed " Personal Macro Wkbook in startup
folder must stay open for recording - unable to record". I have checked
for viruses. The Per M Workbook is in C: \Docs and Settings.....XLstart.
I thought that Per M Wkbook opened automatically on Excel startup.

The only way I can re-produce that is by opening any Workbook, unhiding
Personal.xls, closing it, then trying to record a macro into
Pesonal.xls.

So, I would say that your Personal.xls is not opened.

Next time it happens, go into the VBE (alt-F11 while you're in excel).

Hit ctrl-R to see the project explorer.

Verify that personal.xls is still open. If it isn't, then it did get closed
somehow.

And just an observation. I don't ever record into my personal.xl* workbook. I
always record into a test workbook. I can tweak/clean up/experiment with the
knowledge that I can't screw up my real personal.xl* workbook.

Then after I'm satisfied that I have all (er, almost all) the bugs out, I'll
copy it into my personal.xl* project.
