Excel lock-ups

I am using MS Office 2000 for small business (SBE SR1). For some reaso
I am recently encountering a problem where I cannot open any Excel fil
in say MyDocs without first having to open a new workbook and goin
through the File/Open option. If I go into MyDocs directly and try t
open an Excel file (which does have the Excel icon) it says "path no
found ...... ensure library is complete etc.". I have tried repairing
uninstall/reinstall and downloading all updates from Microsoft websit
but it has made no difference.

Can anyone help please
