Excel: How do I display preceding zeros?

H

Healingbear

I'm creating a table to merge into raffle ticket stock.
I'm trying to create a column of numbers from 000 to 999.
I can't seem to format a cell to accept preceding zeros.
000 becomes 0
005 becomes 5

I believe I've exhausted the Format Cells/Number options.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Pop on a custom format of 000
Format->Cells...->Custom in the "Type" box type in 000

You were closer than you thought.

I made up some tickets for Xmas party using Word and mailmerge.

I tried entering 1,2,3,4 etc as numbers in Excel then Custom Formatting to
000.

Looked good in Excel but lost the 00 when mailmerged. You can play with Word
merge fields formats if you wish, but I wound up entering the numbers in Excel
as text.

'001, '002 etc.

Drag/copy down to your endpoint. Merged fine with no adjustments in Word.
