Excel has encoutered an error

NOrmally these messages have more detail, but this is all
I get. It is excel 2000. I am trying to open up a shared
workbook on a network server. This is the second machine
this has happened on. Also it is only with one particual
file. Any suggestions. I have tried saving the file with
a different name and I have the same problem. The file
appears to be open however the hourglass is still, and
then the error message appears.

We have encountered the same problem that you have. What we have found out is that is you remove all the printers under that specific user profile and Open the file, it works. Also if you login to the same workstation as another user, the file will open without an issue. If you open the file in question, and click on Tools/Share Workbook Under the Editing tab are there multiple entries for the user that is having the issue? We tried removing these entries but this does not help. We are still looking for a Resolution though....
