Hi,

I have office 97 running on all my computers. Our
computers range from p4's to celeron 1.7's, all with at
least 256 mb of memory and lots of free hard drive space.
Recently some of the computers notice severe hang time
when starting up the excel program. When the program
finally opens it seems to be ok. This is the only program
in the office suite that does this. Does anyone have any
idea's?

Thanks.

Hi
just a guess: Maybe a virsu scanner?. Does turning off this scanner
help?

Sometimes the file that holds your toolbar customizations gets hosed.

You could use windows start button|Find to look for *.xlb.

Rename all you find to *.xlbOLD

Then open excel to see if that helps.

If it fixed the problem, toss those *.xlbOLD files. You'll have to rebuild all
your customizations, though.

If it didn't fix it, rename them back to *.xlb.

If this didn't work, Chip Pearson has documented some techniques to try when
you're having trouble starting excel.
