excel hangs in mailmerge

Hi, I'm trying to produce a mailmerge labels (biz cards for badges) but
when I select the data - in whatever format, csv, db3, excel 2000,
excel 5 - word hangs. I've tried creating a test databse with 5
records, same result. Whats going wrong?
