Excel gone crazy

I have been running Excel 2003 SP3 on my machine for quite some time. Lately
- for no reason I can ascertain - it has gone crazy. Specifically, when I
open a spreadsheet, it immediately goes into a drag-and drop mode. Meaning
that it starts highlighting cells and scrolling like made through the entire
spreadsheet. It goes well out into the thousands of cells. In order to stop
it, I have to do a Ctrl-Alt-Del and kill the process. What the heck is going
on? Is this possibly a virus?
