Excel files - macros & links

I record a macro in Excel (2007). It worked fine but when I saved, closed and
reopened the same file I cant run the same macro. Its showing following error
message:
‘Because of your security settings, macro have been disabled. To run macros,
you need to reopen this workbook, and then choose to enable macros’.
I don’t get any alert to enable or disable macros when open any excel files.
I have also ticked ‘Trust access to the VBA project object model’ and chosen
‘Enable all macros (not recommended, potentially dangerous code can run)’ by
taking following steps:
1. Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Excel Options.
2. Click Trust Center, click Trust Center Settings, and then click Macro
Settings.
I have password protected these Excel files - Does this stop running any
saved macros?
Also, if I link two files – save and close both then just open 1 of these,
it doesn’t pick up the links/formulas and shows ‘#VALUE!’ for each cell,
until the other one is open too.
Please help

Thank you very much. It worked.
Please any advise re:

the other one is open too.
I even tried saving both xlsm - but still the same error
Thanks in advance

Click The Office Button- Excel Options - Advanced - then make sure "Update
links to other documents" is checked
