Excel Expandability?

I know this is a really dumb question but....

Is there any way to expand the numbe of columns in a standard sheet. It
appears as though it is limited to 256 columns.

I am running out of room and looks like a rewrite should be in the plans if
the number of columns is indeed a hard stop.

Thanks for not laughing but I am grasping at straws.

Hi Craig,

With older versions of Excel, Microsoft's 'Microsoft Office Spreadsheet X.0' control (where X is the version number) allows you to
embed a worksheet with up to 262,144 rows and up to ZZZ columns.

Cheers
